Yves Saint Laurent 1970s Vintage Maxi Dress in Black Jersey, UK10
Yves Saint Laurent 1970s Vintage Maxi Dress in Black Jersey, UK10
An exquisite 1970s vintage maxi dress by Saint Laurent Rive Gauche in sensuous black jersey.
Incredibly simple and elegantly draping to the body, both concealing and revealing the form beneath. Gathered at a round neck and flowing to floor length. Dramatic slit opening at the back.
Long slender sleeves. Fastens at the back of the neck with two hooks and eyes.
Black means many things, it is a paradox. A symbol of clerical self-denial; and a symbol of power and domination. It makes people abstract; and it is a blank canvas on which to reveal personality. In the Western world, it is the colour of mourning. It speaks of depth and shadows, the colour of mystery. It is seductive, a vehicle for fantasy. It is the colour of intimidation, violence and anarchy. It is rebellious, threatening, satanic; it is the colour of protest, dissent, revolution. Black is practical, slimming, sophisticated; the colour of a mark on paper, of newsprint; the most majestic of all because it contains all the other colours.
