A divine vintage peasant dress by Sambo for Dolly Rockers, 1970s.
The dress is made from printed cotton with an extremely pretty tapestry motif. It has a peasant-style bodice which laces up at the front over a plain muslin smock, with round neck and long gathered sleeves, all actually integral to the dress. The skirt is gathered at the waist and reaches to mid calf. Unlined, back zip.
Dolly Rockers was one of the labels of the British Boutique Movement from the 1960s-1970s, originally based at Camden Market. (See also Catherine Buckley). They were famous for their peasant dresses in the 1970s. In its heyday the label was so popular they began to sew it on the outside of the garment. Thankfully this one is on the inside.
