Mexicana Vintage Maxi Dress in Ivory Cotton and Lace, UK10

Mexicana Vintage Maxi Dress in Ivory Cotton and Lace, UK10

Regular price £530.00 Sale

A wonderful early 1970s vintage maxi dress by Mexicana of Sloane Street,  in ivory cotton and lace.

Unlabelled but authenticated by its owner and unmistakable in style, the dress has simple shape: a round neck edged with lace, flared 3/4 bell sleeves, and is slim fitting, flaring slightly from the shoulders to ankle length.  The fabric is incredible, a patchwork of diagonal squares of overstitched cotton  held together in a diamond pattern by delicate transparent tapes of scalloped lace.

The dress is in perfect condition and would be a wonderful wedding dress.

Mexicana was a boutique in Sloane Street set up by Mexican Alfredo Bouret, a celebrated fashion illustrator of his day who, having illustrated designs for Balmain, Balenciaga, and Chanel, had a highly successful career at Vogue.  In the 1960s he opened Mexicana, to sell clothes he designed himself to celebrate the art and culture of his native Mexico.  It was an instant success due to the gorgeous designs, which chimed with contemporary audiences, and the high standards of workmanship.
