An incredible tunic or chapan from Uzbekistan, made of beautiful raw silk Ikat woven fabric. Red, blue, black and yellow and beige.
Caftan shape, with delicately cross stitched border around the neck and down the front, in multicoloured geometric pattern with fringe at the bottom
Provenance: This tunic is from the collection of a former lecturer in textiles, who accumulated his treasured pieces during extensive travels in the middle and Far East in the late 1960s - early 1970s. Unfortunately the paper records have been lost, so no more information is now available.
