Vintage World's End Pirate Top, c.1981, O/S

Vintage Vivienne Westwood World's End Pirates Collection Top, c.1981

Regular price £350.00 Sale

A vintage classic, this squiggle print top from Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren's World's End Pirates collection, c.1981, is from the archive of film costume designer Annie Symons.

Completely asymmetrical and unstructured, this long sleeved top is made of contrasting panels: blue squiggle print, pale check shirting cotton and white with orange motif.

Boy George wearing World's End Pirate Top

"An early example of the asymmetric method of cutting & making a garment, the neck hole for the head is not centrally placed, but is placed instead about 6 inches to the side & lower down the front of the top from the normal thereby creating a rumpled/creased effect & the top hangs off the shoulder creating a new dynamic with the fabric pushing & pulling against the body.  The prints used were sourced at the time, squiggle from a wood block print that Vivienne & Malcolm found at the studio of their friend/designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.
